List

Organising content · researched

A bulleted or numbered list of related text items.

atom

Each block is the real component from that system’s own package, in an isolated frame. They are live: hover, focus and press them. Frames are drawn on white so systems compare on one ground, and a font a system licenses only for its own site (GOV.UK’s Transport) falls back to what the system itself specifies.

Index said not shipped; it missed this. List (rows with text, pictures, actions) is marked DEPRECATED in docs and source and is to be removed next major; Listy (docs page 'Listy', tagged 6.6.0) is the stable successor, a virtualizable grouped list of divs. Neither is a plain bulleted/numbered text list, hence contested.

5 corrected on re-read
  • builds_on_native: "no" → "partly" List renders ul/li (native) but is deprecated; Listy renders div.ant-listy > div.ant-listy-item
  • sizes: null → ["default","large","small"] List API row size default|large|small (List only; Listy has none)
  • states_documented: null → ["loading"] List API row: loading
  • alias_kind: "contested" → "superset" decided independently from definition vs markup
  • name_in_system: "List (deprecated) / Listy" → "Listy (List is deprecated)" component name in docs/exports

Checked: component index (https://design-system.service.gov.uk/components/ , 37 components), patterns index, styles index, repo tree src/govuk/components and objects, and installed govuk-frontend 6.5.1 components directory. Lists are documented only as type styles (Styles > Lists: govuk-list, --bullet, --number, --spaced classes) applied to native ul/ol; no component or macro. Index also had no entry. A documented style page is the nearest thing, so the gallery may choose to count it.

  • present: "absent" → "ships" Styles > Lists is a documented page; core/_lists.scss ships .govuk-list classes; no macro
  • alias_kind: null → "same" govuk-list on native ul/ol does the canonical job; shipped as a style, not a component
  • name_in_system: null → "Lists (style: govuk-list)" Styles page "Lists"

Index missed it. md-list is Material's list of text, link or button rows (role=list via ElementInternals; items render native li, button or anchor), not a bulleted or numbered text list, hence contested. A GB list/list item (labs/gb, unpublished) also exists.

Primer

absentPrimer does not ship this component. Nothing is drawn in its place.

No bulleted/numbered text list component. ActionList is a vertical list of interactive actions/options (menu-style), LabelGroup lays out labels; neither does the plain-list job. ul/ol are left to HTML and CSS utilities. Checked: primer.style/product/components/ index, internal-components list, ui-patterns, packages/react/src tree (incl. deprecated/, experimental/, internal/).

Spectrum

absentSpectrum does not ship this component. Nothing is drawn in its place.

Checked the sitemap.xml and query-index.json component list, S2 exports, SWC 1st-gen/gen2 package trees and spectrum-css components for a plain bulleted or numbered list: none. Spectrum has List view (interactive, selectable rows) and List box (v3), which are collection controls, not a text list; typography CSS list styles are not a component. Index also lists none.
